1995 - South Riding, Establishing Loudoun County Utilities Infrastructure

South Riding, a planned community in Loudoun County, VA was a particularly noteworthy project as prior to its existence, there were no public utilities at all in this portion of the County. Chris Brown and Lou Canonico worked with the owners of South Riding and other property owners south of Dulles Airport to convince the County to amend their Comprehensive Plan to allow public utilities to be extended into this part of the County.

Once the property was rezoned and christopher designed the initial infrastructure, we had to design the first major sewage pumping station (that ultimately would be taken over by Loudoun Water) since gravity sewer had been extended into the area, but most of South Riding was downhill for the sewer line.

The plan for South Riding included an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse which made the project especially interesting to design. The course itself was designed by renowned golf course architect Dan Maples. The course was designed to wind through the community so as many residential units as possible would have golf course frontage or views.
