Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School

christopher consultants provided civil engineering and surveying services to Studio 27 Architecture for the renovation of Mundo Verde, a bilingual charter school in Washington D.C. The renovation turned Mundo Verde into the district’s first “green” public charter school. Project efforts included the schematic design, design development, construction drawings and construction administration. Additional services performed included bringing this bilingual charter school into compliance with the DC Green Building Act. Survey services included ALTA/NSPS land title surveys and existing conditions surveys.

The new school and annex building accommodate 500 total students. The design of the campus includes garden classrooms and a grey water system. Mundo Verde’s new school building has been certified LEED Gold and Platinum, and the Annex (La Casita) has achieved USBGC LEED for Schools Platinum certification. Mundo Verde received the AIA’s highest honor as a COTE Top Ten Award, as well as a Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture from AIA Virginia.
