christopher provided civil site design, surveying and stormwater management services to Arlington County for the development of Long Bridge Park, a premiere urban park with a prominent gateway and a promenade with spectacular monument views. Located in North Arlington, the park is a first-class recreational facility to be enjoyed by present and future generations. As part of a mixed use rezoning for Potomac Yard, Arlington County received 30 acres of land for Long Bridge Park through a land exchange agreement. Considered a brownfield, the property required soil remediation due to previous industrial uses on-site. The North Tract Area property is also extremely environmentally sensitive due to its location adjacent to the Roaches Run Waterfowl Sanctuary and the Potomac River.
The multiphase Long Bridge Park master plan involved an extensive, multi-year public outreach program. christopher’s master plan incorporated four lighted and synthetic turf soccer fields, a natatorium, walking and biking trails and an innovative rain garden for SWM/BMPs. The park was designed to be a world-class “green” recreational facility, attaining a Silver LEED certification. christopher provided engineering and surveying services and prepared the preliminary and final engineering plans and exhibits for the VDOT land exchange.
