KIPP DC Arts and Tech Academy

Washington, DC

christopher provided civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture services for the 40,000 square-foot expansion of the existing school building. Project efforts included detailed stormwater management design to meet the new Department of Energy and Environment’s (DOEE) stormwater management, on-site retention and detention requirements. To meet the requirements, stormwater management solutions included large portions of green roof and a large underground cistern. The cistern is being used for site landscape irrigation, and was installed out-of-sight, below the parking lot.

christopher also prepared Green Area Ratio (GAR) plans, utility plans for necessary upgrades, and the redesign and rerouting of the existing DC Water utility water and sewer mains that ran through the property. The completed school can now accommodate over 1,000 pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students.
