Burke Junction

Fairfax County, VA

christopher provided civil engineering, land planning, surveying and landscape architecture services for the development of Burke Junction, a single-family home community. Project efforts included initial feasibility investigation of the property, conceptual design and rezoning entitlement. christopher also provided construction plans for the site development, road improvements, stormwater management plans, landscape plans, permitting and plan processing, preparation of plats, topographic survey, utility survey and construction stakeout.

Burke Junction consists of 17 single-family homes on eight acres located at the intersection of Guinea Road and Zion Drive. christopher’s project efforts focused on preservation of the historical and environmental integrity of the site. This included coordinating with the Potomac Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant society to move native plants to stormwater restoration areas.  Additionally, the historic Burke post office building on the property was relocated to the grounds of the Silas Burke House.

Facts & Results

The two awards this project received were in recognition of the outstanding efforts made by the project team in employing responsible land disturbance techniques and good construction practices to protect the properties and resources of Fairfax County. This achievement included overcoming particular challenges on the Burke Junction site included proximity to a busy road, the presence of steep C and D slopes and highly erodible soil.
