We’re delighted to announce that we have two 2022 recipients of the christopher consultants Civil Engineering Scholarship!
Shafin Anika, a recent graduate of Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Virginia, worked diligently on her academic career all through high school, enrolling in coursework including Technical Drawing, Architectural Drawing and AutoCAD in addition to advanced levels of coursework in math and science.
christopher consultants Scholarship Selection Committee member, Kevin Washington, VP Urban Land said, “Shafin Anika demonstrated, through her impressive GPA, that she has the diligence, perseverance and self-discipline to excel at college-level curriculum, while her chosen coursework and extra-curricular pursuits showed us that she has a genuine interest in a career in civil engineering.”
Ali Downes, Senior Director of Human Resources at christopher consultants, and Scholarship Selection Committee member added, “We were particularly impressed with Shafin’s quiet confidence. She is a proven scholar, admired by peers and instructors, and is successful in everything she has pursued through a commitment to hard work and a laser focus on her future.”
Shafin plans to attend Old Dominion University in the fall to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering.
Luis Ramos Garcia, our second recipient and another member of the Unity Reed High School class of 2022, will attend the University of Virginia in the fall to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering, following in his older brother’s footsteps.
Ali Downes said, “Luis is a remarkable young man who clearly has a love of learning, a passion for innovation and a dedication to continuing to challenge himself. He stands out as one of only 20 students at Unity Reed to complete the IB diploma. We were impressed.”
Nearly every elective Luis chose related to his field of interest: Intro to Engineering Design, Digital Electronics and Principles of Engineering; he is a serious student and an asset to his community through his volunteer efforts.
“In reading Luis’ recommendations, I was struck by the balance of intelligence, maturity and compassion just as much as by his incredible GPA, achieved while enrolled in the most rigorous classes offered. It’s clear that he would be an incredible asset to the AEC industry,” Kevin Washington.
