… More Like Wall Breaking!

November 15, 2021, Eli Goldman, PE, and Feras Alnatour attended the groundbreaking for the new mixed-use development, Oakville Triangle. Located between Richmond Highway and Mr. Jefferson Park near Potomac Yard and Del Ray, the groundbreaking included a symbolic mini wall constructed for the event, and Eli was able to take a swing.

Hosted by Inova Health System, Stonebridge and PCCP, LLC, the groundbreaking was attended by Mayor Justin Wilson, Dr. Rina Bansal, president of Inova Alexandria Hospital and Douglas Firstenberg, principal of Stonebridge, among others.

Currently, the Route 1 location features industrial buildings and various service businesses but will be transformed to include 35,000 square feet of retail, 84 townhouses, 572 multifamily units and the 95,000-square-foot Inova medical center.  This new medical center will offer a full emergency room, ambulatory surgery center, family medicine center, imaging services and medical offices. The area is growing exponentially with the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus and Amazon’s HQ2, and the community will be well-served by this full medical center.

This project would not be what it is today without Stonebridge working to involve Inova Health System, Tri Pointe Homes and Dahn Group to help transform this industrial area to a mixed-use development that will better serve its community.

“We are so fortunate that Inova is making the levels of investment in our community to ensure that we have the level of health care services that we need in this community,” said Mayor Justin Wilson.

christopher’s participation in the project began in 2014 with Stonebridge when we completed the topographic survey and began preparing the concept plans for the site. We have seen the site layout evolve into what was approved by the City and will be constructed over the coming years. The groundbreaking follows years of planning in coordination with the City’s government. Developer Stonebridge estimates its initial development components will deliver in fall 2023, and final completion is estimated in winter 2024. Inova’s estimated opening date for the medical and emergency facility is 2023.

We’re happy see this project start construction just as the nearby Potomac Yard project also begins construction. Our extensive work in the Alexandria area is making a noticeable impact in the community.

“This is really a vision of the future. The way we’re integrating the healthplex and the services for the daily needs and lives of the community are truly different,” said Douglas Firstenberg, principal of Stonebridge, at the groundbreaking.
