In the spring of 2020, the looming threat of global pandemic shook our feeling of safety and forced us to socially distance from each other. This new reality was made worse by heightened racial and socio-economic tensions, which tore our communities apart.

Here at christopher, we want to unite communities in a tangible way. Many bright young minds are limited not by their talent but by a lack of opportunity. In an effort to change this, we formed a partnership with Unity Reed High School (formally Stonewall Jackson High School) in Prince William County providing internships, leadership training, life skill coaching and mentorship to their diverse student population.

Our goal is to provide opportunity for those students who are motivated to achieve more than their circumstances would otherwise allow.

We are proud to announce that we have just initiated a fund to support the christopher consultants’ Scholarship For Aspiring Civil Engineers administered by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia.  This scholarship will enable a qualifying senior at Unity Reed High School – located in a less affluent area of Northern Virginia – to attend the four-year college or university of their choice at no cost in the field of civil engineering, surveying or landscape architecture. The application criteria requires only that the student have the capacity to be accepted into an accredited university and have the financial need.

Removing barriers to our industry to include the bright and motivated, young and diverse minds of the future requires all of us to join together. We invite you to participate in contributing to a better future. One student at Unity Reed High School’s life could be changed and our industry could move closer to truly representing our richly diverse society. With the average annual college tuition in Virginia exceeding $25,000, we will have to work together to make a difference and we’d love your help. Every dollar counts.
