For several weeks, christopher consultants’ survey crews have had boots on the ground at the future site of the new Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. The new Metro station is a long-awaited addition to Potomac Yard, a 235-acre mixed-use development located in the City of Alexandria. With its proximity to current Blue and Yellow lines, the new station will contribute to increasing economic development within Potomac Yard.
Jessica Harrison, Senior Associate in christopher’s Survey Division, has been leading her team providing the initial topography necessary for the upcoming construction. In the coming months, their focus will shift to providing construction layout for a variety of improvements across the site.
The project has been moving along successfully due in part to excellent communication between our team and the client, Potomac Yard Constructors. Additionally, providing both survey and engineering in-house has allowed these two portions of the project to come together seamlessly.
christopher’s urban team has begun preparing a grading plan to submit to the City of Alexandria for approval. The approval of this grading plan will allow for the parcel located at 2601 Main Line Boulevard to be used by the contractor for employee parking, equipment and material storage, tractor trailer and truck parking and material storage during construction of the Metro station. When construction is complete on the Metro station, the parcel will be returned to its original use. An extraordinary amount of data will be collected and delivered to ensure accurate delivery of the project.
Our firm is very excited to see the Metro station come to life, as we have been a part of the development of Potomac Yard over the last 31 years. With the new transit hub, population will increase by 35% and jobs by 46%, providing opportunity to develop more residential units, office space, retail and landscape amenities.
