Lou Canonico’s 32 Years Growing our Loudoun Office

Lou Canonico has been the head of christopher’s Loudoun office for 32 years.

After working in the Fairfax office for a year Lou opened christopher’s second office in Loudoun in March of 1985.

The office was located in what was to become the Countryside Commercial Center. christopher moved into the first building built in the complex. They were the only company currently in the complex and had a gravel driveway from the main road until the access drive was finished.

By the winter of 1988 the full-service office had grown from five people to 88. Starting with surveying and engineering, Lou was also instrumental in adding the Special Services team which he now oversees, who perform landscape architecture and land planning for the company.

Under Lou’s direction the Loudoun office has been involved in most of the premiere projects in Loudoun including Countryside, Cascades, Dulles Town Center, Broadlands, Lansdowne, South Riding, Stone Ridge and many others.

“One project I remember in particular was the old 2,000 acre Arthur Godfrey estate just west of Leesburg. We didn’t know it when we started but he had an exotic animal compound on part of the estate. The surveyors had to dodge ostriches, elk and other exotic critters to get the initial surveys done,” said Lou.

Lou continues to shape the region through his work with the Loudoun County’s Economic Development Commission, NVBIA Loudoun Chapter, and the County’s Zoning Ordinance Advisory Group, as well as through dozens of public and private projects in the county.

“Around here Lou is known as Mr. Loudoun. There’s nobody who knows the County or the key players better,” said christopher President Bill Zink. “Lou continues to be an asset to the company and his team.”
