Mike Kitchen was awarded the 2016 Bill Berry President’s Award at the NVBIA President’s Ball on January 28th. This award recognizes an NVBIA member who has made outstanding contributions of time, talent and dedication to the association and the building industry.
Mike is a Life Director with NVBIA and has been actively involved in the association for many years, from serving at the chapter level, to the board of directors and the executive committee. Most recently Mike has spent three successive years as the organization’s treasurer.
Michael Sandkuhler, outgoing President of NVBIA, commented: “It’s been a privilege to work with Mike over this past year and witness all [he does] for our association. Often with little recognition or thanks. So tonight, I’d like to personally thank Mike Kitchen for his many years of service to NVBIA and thank him publicly with the presentation of this much-deserved Bill Berry President’s Award.”
Mike serves the building community through a variety of organizations and is a member of the executive committee for NAIOP Northern Virginia, a member of the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity Prince William County and Matthew’s Center (a non-profit organization located in Manassas dedicated to the education of autistic children), and a member of the Board of Trustees for Community Christian Fellowship.
The Bill Berry President’s Award was renamed this year to honor late NVBIA President Bill Berry, who passed away in December. Bill was a decorated member of the Loudoun building community whose modest nature belied his numerous achievements. Mike was especially honored to be the first to receive the award in Bill’s name.
